Risk Is Risk... Uncertainty Is Unanswered Options

Most often... the important work you do does not bring a guaranteed and specific result... usually the result of any given action on your part is unknown... until you get a yes or no... or a successful result and conclusion.

Uncertainty... of a project often implies a range of possible outcomes.

Yet a range of results... all being uncertain... does not imply or mean you are exposing yourself to risk... it means you are exposing yourself to an outcome you did not have a chance to fall in love with in advance... and are actually reducing the risk on a range of possible outcomes...

Like the saying goes...

“Do not put all your eggs in one basket.”

A simple example...

The typical high school student applying to a range of colleges has very little risk of getting in nowhere... when you apply to enough colleges that match what you have to offer... the odds are high that you will get in somewhere... low risk approach with a very high level uncertainty level about which college or colleges will say yes.

That is not risky... that is uncertainty.

It takes fortitude to live with a future that is not clearly imagined and defined... it is no reason not to apply.

Another example...

If you speak to 100 people... it is uncertain which people will be impacted by what you say... and the risk that you will resonate with no one is small indeed.

The question to ask yourself is...

"Am I hesitating because I am not sure the future will match my specific vision... or is there truly an endangering risk here?"

A portfolio of uncertain outcomes is very different from a large risk.
