How To Re-frame Your Brains Memory System To Benefit You.

As part of my own personal... and professional development... I am always reading up the latest cutting edge science in the world of evolutionary psychology... neurology... and biology.

The latest neuroscience research suggests you can literally... "edit"... your memory. 

So... "how"... would this be useful to you?

First...

How The Brain Remembers... The Old Thinking...

Most people think about human memory as a videotape... or computer memory...  when you remember something... like "thoughts"... or "feelings"... it triggers your "brain"... which finds the video... and then plays back the memory to you.

You are using the... "memory recall system"... in playing back the memory... which is vivid... or vague depending on... "how" efficient your memory recall system is.

How The Brain Remembers... The NEW Thinking...

Neuroscientists who study the way the "brain" retrieves memories... found out an important breakthrough in the field of "success training"... which is really helpful to you in... "personal development"... and "acquiring" your "goals."

It turns out that human memory is not like that at all... when you remember something... your "brain" is instantly... "rewiring"... the connections between neurons... literally changing the "neuro structure" of your "brain."

Rather than video playback... human memory is more like video editing...  when you remember something you are recreating... changing... and rememorizing the.. "experience"... which includes... "emotions" and "experiences" attached to that "experience."
    
The memory is subject to "change" every time you remember it... it is not a faithful reproduction of a past event... it is more of an... "approximation"... of the experience.

According to the latest research... it is possible to intentionally edit "negative memories" to remove the "negative feelings" associated with those memories... this new memory therapy is being used treat to PTSD sufferers... and I am myself trailing an existing method I have modified for use in Dynamic Life Development Systems... I will keep you posted on my progress.

What This Means To You...

Your "attitude"... and "behaviours"... the two things that make you "successful"... or not... are heavily influenced by your memories... this is not new... and has been known in psychology for some time... and for the context of this article... I will keep it within the realms of... "personal development."

For example...

If you have experienced a "painful failure" in the past... you are more likely to avoid "taking risks"... even when they are "smart risks."

Similarly... if you have had "successes" in the past... you are more likely to take "actions" to repeat those "successes"... if you have vivid "positive memories" about them.

The reason that this research is so important is that we now know that you can...

  • Edit your bad memories so that they do not hold you back.
  • Edit your good memories so that they propel you forward.
In other words... you can literally rewire your "brain" to make you more "successful."

And there is already an existing method you can modify... where you can do that... which I have done... it is called... "reframing."

How To Weaken Your Negative Memories...

To extract the "negative experience"... as it were... of your bad memories... bring the memory into your mind... and then imagine it getting smaller... and dimmer... like you are watching a tiny black... and white TV.

Now add details that scramble the memory. 

For instance... if you are remembering a time when you bombed a presentation... turn the audience... the little bitty audience in the little bitty screen... so that they are all wearing clown suits.

Do this five... or 10 times and you will become aware that the "negative memory" simply does not possess its "emotional sting" any longer... if anything... the memory of that presentation will make you laugh... because you have "consciously"... and "physically reframed" the memory... and created new "neuro pathways" in your "brain."

When you master this method... you have the ability to... "reframe" any "experience."

How To Strengthen Your Positive Memories...

To make your "positive memories" more "powerful"... and "motivating"... you use the same method in reverse... you call the memory up as vividly as you can... imaging your memory on a huge surround-sound screen... make it bright... and loud.

WHY?

Because you then set... "positive emotional anchor points"... in your "brain"... which will then be associated with similar experiences... as you experience them... you are consciously inserting... and increasing the wonderful "positive feelings" that you "experienced" in that situation.

Do this five... or 10 times and you will discover that what was once just a happy memory is now a "driving motivation".... the more you experience the memory... the more you will fire the neurons associated with those "emotions" to want make that experience real again.

What you are doing is creating anchor points of... "positive... emotional"... neuron feedback loops in your own "brain"... by using the "aware consciousness" of your own psychology!

I have been using this psychological method for many years... without the fully understanding the science of why it works... now that I "know" and "understand" the neuroscience behind it. 

I can now maximise the use of this powerful method for myself... and my clients will benefit greatly too.
