Have You Ever Had That Feeling...

Have you ever had a strong feeling about somebody... or a situation where you did not know why you felt the way that you did... you just did? 

And you could not even really put into words any "reason" why you felt the way that you did... maybe you did not have a shred of evidence or proof... yet that nagging feeling still persisted. 

There was an experiment done to try to prove that our subconscious picks up on things way sooner than our conscious mind. 

In this experiment... Professor Antonio Damasio presented test subjects with 4 decks of cards... the subject was able to pick a card from any one of the 4 decks... yet what they did not know was that the decks of cards were rigged. 

Two of the decks were rigged to provide a loss for the subject... and the other two were rigged to provide a gain... the subjects used play money for the experiment. 

Throughout the experiment the subjects were asked what they thought was going on in the "game"... they were hooked up to sensors similar to lie detector equipment. 

After the subjects had turned over about 10 cards... they began showing a physical measurable reaction to the decks of cards that were the losing decks on the "lie detector" like sensors... and after turning over about 30 cards the subjects could begin to express their "gut feeling" that two of the decks were more likely to produce a loss... it then took about 20 more cards or 50 total... to where they could prove their gut feeling was right. 

The conclusion of course... was that there was some part of the subjects brains that was able to pick up on these cues way before it "arrived" to their conscious awareness... this is the same part of our brain that will keep us from walking down a dark alley at night or make us walk away when we run into a stranger and we get that gut feeling that something is "off."

It is also one of the things that you want to overcome when you are trying to influence or persuade someone... in other words... as the persuader you do not want to set off someones subconscious "fear alarm" where you send them running in the other direction. 

What you want to do is create the environment where they drop their guard so that you can influence or persuade them to listen to you...  they are not the same fears where people would fear for their safety or their lives... yet these fears are there just the same. 

The key is being able to use this information to strengthen your ability to influence and persuade anyone. 

The truth is that much of our communication to each other takes place on a subconscious level... and whether you call it the subconscious... the old brain... the dinosaur brain... you have to be able to get past these "guards" in order to get your message across... without setting off these psychological triggers that would send someone running in the opposite direction of you. 

Because they will have that feeling that something is not quite right.
