Estrogen Dominance The Great Creator Of Body Fat

And How To Control It

By Ange Fonce

You eat healthy you work out and you count your calories.

And that stubborn body fat just will not move... why?

It took me some time to figure this one out for myself... I worked out and eating natural unprocessed food watching my calorie intake and just could not move the remaining stubborn body fat... then I read scientific study on hormones... especially how to much estrogen in your body produces body fat... not only that for us men it has lots of other effects that seriously harm our masculinity and sexing drive!

I had found the secret enemy I was battling against... Estrogen which is now aided by a man made chemicals called Xenoestrogens!

Estrogen is one of the hormones that will naturally cause a persons body to store body fat.

Women produce more of it than men do and it is natural for women to produce estrogen.... yet it is harmful for us men at those higher levels.

Why Bodies Thicken And Soften

The thickening of womens bodies and the softening of mens bodies are often related to excess estrogen especially premenopausal women and men aged 40 and up and it is also a significant cause of weight gain in the younger population as well because when in excess estrogen promotes the growth of estrogen sensitive tissues leading to an increased size of adipose fat tissues in the waist... belly and other estrogen sensitive fat tissues... for men it is typically in the belly and chest for women in the belly... lower butt... upper thighs and sometimes in the back of the arms... in some cases excess estrogen causes feminization of mens bodies with conditions such as gynecomastia.

Estrogen sensitive fat tissues are also called stubborn fat due to their high resistance to fat burning and not even good nutrition or exercise can help remove this estrogen sensitive tenacious fat as excess estrogen works in a vicious cycle... estrogen promotes fat gain and the enlarged fat tissue produces more estrogen within its cells which then promotes more fat gain and so on... the problem is somewhat of a vicious cycle because the body is continuously exposed to excess estrogens... these come not only from what our own body metabolism, and is unfortunately enhanced in overweight individuals and the normal aging process and also from medicinal sources such as birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy with premarin.

Another extremely significant source of excess estrogen comes from outside sources such as the meat that you eat like beef and chicken as well as potentially some of the supplements you take into your body... such as whey protein which is made from cows milk and in many processed foods.

The Effect Of Xenoestrogens... Gender Benders

These environmental chemicals are also referred to as gender benders because they alter the gender of a life form.

These man made gender benders have grown to epidemic proportions.

This is because the vast majority of the animals that we eat are injected with hormones to promote faster growth so that the food supply can be plentiful and relatively low cost... you also are exposed to what are referred to as Xenoestrogens or estrogen mimickers... these substances come from the air you breathe that is polluted with car fumes and chemical plant contaminants that are airborne.

Xenoestrogens are also found in detergents... paints... nail polish... lotions... soaps... plastics... pesticides... herbicides... fungicides the list goes on and all of this excess estrogenic activity wreaks havoc on your ability to lose weight not to mention the greatly increased risk of many types of cancers and when look look at it on a bigger scale they are turning men into women!

The funny thing about the body is that the more fat you have the more estrogen receptors you produce and the more the body is compelled to make more estrogen along with the outside sources to fill up those receptors... now that is a merry go round that needs to breakdown!

Study after study is finding higher and higher levels of these chemical type of estrogen in children and teens of today... young females are going into puberty earlier than ever before... young boys are also developing fat deposits similar to females in the hips... thighs and chest than ever before.

Insulin And Cortisol... The Other Offenders

While estrogen and progesterone are central there are other facilitating hormones that may be acting up also most often is insulin and cortisol as many women in their thirties experience never before known food cravings and the target of those is sweets.

There is a very significant connection between estrogen and progesterone levels and insulin.

Insulin is the hormone made in the pancreas... this long thin organ is neatly tucked away under the left side of your rib cage and controls blood sugar levels... when insulin is released into the blood stream... blood sugar levels drop instantly and too much insulin is released blood sugar level overshoots and drops too low... this sudden drop in blood sugar may leave you feeling weak... queasy... shaky... sweaty and craving sweets.

With the setting in of low blood sugar things begin to compound as the bodys production of progesterone decreases and circulating estrogen becomes dominant... insulin is released more rapidly and more often so you are both unable to properly metabolize calories and at the same time... taking more in calories.

Cortisol is the stress hormone produced in the adrenal glands that sit right above the kidneys when you are under stress and have high levels of cortisol your body is physiologically unable to go into a weight loss mode as elevated cortisol levels trick the body into thinking there is danger is ahead your body is programmed to conserve all your fat reserves for an impending crisis.

Cortisol can also affect the proper production of other hormones.

Do You Have A Weight Set Point?

Have you heard about how the body has a certain weight set point to which it will always try to return if weight is lost.

This is especially true if you go on a crash diet and lose weight quickly... the problem with crash diets is that you are losing muscle mass which is the fat burning furnace for our body... yes weight is lost rapidly and when you go back to a regular eating patterns the weight returns with a vengeance because the metabolism has slowed to a crawl and even what may be considered a good calorie intake may cause excessive weight gain.

Why does this happen?

Balancing The Hormones In Your Body

Good nutrition is paramount in that it needs to be based on natural high protein preferably hormone free foods as well low in mercury levels... carbohydrates consumed must be low glycemic index and low glycemic load which keeps insulin surges to a minimum thereby inhibiting fat storage and the sparing of lean muscle... this means cutting out all processed sugars!

You consume 6 small healthy meals per day as this is key so that you keep the metabolic rate high and thus the fat burning engine running and to actually make that a more doable goal in terms of eating... I suggest supplementing with a high quality... organic... hormone free non denatured foods... in other words cutting out processed high sugar and high salt content foods.

Exercise is the next critical rung on the ladder of success in that one must commit to a minimum of 40 minutes a day of exercise that focus not on aerobic type activities... such as walking and bike riding... you also work on building a reasonable amount of lean muscle mass so that you are always burning fat.

You will be surprised that you can start with just 30 minutes a day exercising and working up to an ideal of 60 minutes a day to achieve great success... next you must provide the body with superior natural supplements that we are all lacking in our diet despite eating correctly and well because simply our food sources have become devoid of the necessary nutrients and must supplement with what the body is craving such as arginine... Vitamin D3... resveratrol... selenium... zinc... trace minerals... omega 3 fatty acids... etc.

Once the above have been addressed diet and exercise and supplements still may not allow for the goal that one wants to achieve simply because your body is totally out of balance for one or more reasons that needs to be addressed by a physician... this is where hormone balancing and food science plays a huge part and I will go more in depth on hormone balancing in a future article.

In the meantime here are a few quick tips that will help you in balancing the hormones in your body and aid in burn of your excess body fat.

Limit The Caffeine

I love coffee a lot and the truth is that too much caffeine can wreak havoc on the endocrine system especially if there are other hormone stressors involved too like pregnancy... presence of toxins or stress.

Cut down the coffee if you can or replace with beneficial herbal teas... if you cannot or will nut cut the coffee use it as a way to sneak in your beneficial fats by adding 1 tablespoon coconut oil to each cup and blending in the blender to emulsify... so it is like a latte with healthy fats!

Avoid Toxins

Toxins found in pesticides... plastics... household chemicals and even mattresses can contain hormone disrupting chemicals that mimic hormones in the body and keep the body from producing real hormones... things like hormonal birth control can obviously do the same thing and if you have hormone imbalance or are struggling to get pregnant avoiding these toxins is very important!

Cook in glass or non coated metal pans... no non stick or teflon and avoid heating or storing foods in plastic.

Find organic produce whenever possible and do not use chemical pesticides or cleaners.

SLEEP

I cannot emphasize this one enough... if you are not getting enough sleep your hormones will not be balanced... period.

This can singly improve hormones and is even linked to longer life... less chance of disease and optimizing weight.

Exercise Lightly

If you have hormone imbalance intense extended exercise can actually make the problem worse in the short term as sleep is actually more important at least during the balancing phase so focus on relaxing exercises like walking or swimming and avoid the extended running cardio and exercise videos for now.

Eat Some Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is amazing for hormone health... it provides the necessary building blocks for hormone production and can assist weight loss... reduce inflammation and even has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

If you really need hormone help aim to consume 1/4 cup of added coconut oil a day.

My favourite way is to blend into coffee or tea.

Fix Your Leptin

What Leptin Does...

Leptin is sometimes called the satiety hormone it helps inhibit hunger and regulate energy balance so the body does not trigger hunger responses when it does not need energy.

However when levels of the hormone fall which happens when an individual loses weight the lower levels can trigger huge increases in appetite and food cravings... this, in turn can make weight loss more difficult.

Leptin is a master hormone and if it is out of balance or if you are resistant to it no other hormones will balance well... fixing leptin will also help boost fertility make weight loss easier... improve sleep and lower inflammation.

Lift Heavy Weights

While extended cardio can be bad short bursts of heavy lifting like kettlebells doing deadlifts... squats... lunges can be beneficial since they trigger a cascade of beneficial hormone reactions... aim for a few sets 5... 7 reps at a weight that really challenges you and make sure to get help with form and training if you have not done these before as bad form can be harmful!

And practically speaking that completes my conversation for this article.

Have you any thoughts or comments you would like to share with me on what I have written?

I would love to hear from you.

Thank you and may you enjoy a Loving... Prosperous and Dynamic day!

Yours Sincerely
