Eating Healthy When On The Go

When you are traveling... sometimes it is not the easiest task to find healthy food options... especially if your only options are fast food joints.

I stay far away from McDonalds or BK and places like that... I think the last time I had them was twenty years ago.

And I have found a much healthier fast food option on many of my travels... like fresh Mexican food places and here is how I modify their options to get the healthiest meal possible.

Usually the menus are full of burrito and taco options and I really do not want the wheat or corn tortillas since those are just useless carbs and calories without much nutrition value... plus most wheat wraps are made with hydrogenated oils which are bad transfats... so that is another reason to avoid them.

So what I do is ask the worker to make me a special plate where I will just take tons of veggies... beans... salsa and LOTS of guacamole... I always decline the rice too since that is also a pretty useless carb with no "real nutrition value" and does not add much on taste either.

This pretty much confuses the worker every time since this mixed plate option is not really on their menu and they do not know what to charge me and I just ask them to charge me for whatever they think is fair. 

Considering this is fast food... this is about the healthiest option that packs the most nutritional punch without overloading on useless carbs and sugars... plus it is pretty damn tasty too! 

And it also satisfies the appetite for a long time since it has plenty of healthy fats from the guac and fiber from the beans and veggies.

Consider giving this little trick a try next time you are out and about and want to find a healthier fast food option.

Whenever I tell people this simple rule for eating healthy they are always shocked by its simplicity and that they never thought of it like this before.

First... you need to come to the realization that food science and marketing in recent decades has crowded all of the REAL food out of our grocery stores and places to eat... to the point that at LEAST 90% of everything in a modern day supermarket store and food places is NOT true food anymore... the so called food that lines our store shelves and places to eat nowadays is better termed... edible food like substances... which I heard a respected food nutritionist use and I absolutely love that term and think it is SO very true!

Our food supply has become so overly processed... that it is not uncommon for a simple snack food to contain a list of 20... 30 ingredients of additives... chemicals... flavorings... colourings... high fructose corn syrup... MSG... artificial sweeteners and more totally unhealthy crap!

And it CAN be easy to avoid ALL of this junk by following 1 simple rule of eating healthy and that is eat only foods that are 1 ingredient... drop dead simple!

This means sticking almost solely to these... fruits... veggies... nuts... seeds... berries and if you eat meats which I do not... only eat meats raised in a healthy manner and non processed because if you knew what goes into meat these days you would run a mile from them.

For example... almost everything I ate today as I write this article in the evening was 1 ingredient although perhaps mixed together...

Simple porridge for breakfast

Snacked on fruit... berries and nuts all afternoon

Home made guacamole... made fresh with all single ingredients and veggie sticks

Cooked mixed veggies... side salad and all fresh for dinner

Now THIS is fat burning healthy nutrition made easy... all simple stuff and all made from single ingredients instead of processed food packages with 30 ingredients or more.

Do I eat like this 100% of the time... admittedly no... yet if you can stick to this 1 ingredient rule at least 90% of the time... it is actually VERY simple to get as lean as you want and eat healthy!

A 2nd simple rule...

If your great grandparents 100 years ago would not have recognized the food you are eating... then do not eat it!

Whenever I tell people this simple rule for eating healthy... they are always shocked by its simplicity and that they never thought of it like this before and when you consider it... there has been a super healthy fast food shop that has been around for hundreds of years... so you can eat healthy food on the go... it is a fruit and vegetables shop called a greengrocers.

Now... how easy it is to eat real food instead of edible food like substances on the go and still be healthy!
