Do You Influence To Build Others Up Or Knock Them Down?

By Ange Fonce

"Those who are lifting the world upward and onward are those who encourage more than criticize."

~ Elizabeth Harrison

Something I realized a few years ago in one of those...

"Of course I should have realized that all along!"

Moments that is encouragement are powerful influence is absolutely free... it costs me nothing to give it out and its pay off is incredible... such a brighter smile and improved performance on any sort of task brings much more enjoyment in doing something... I see this in people constantly when I or someone else encourages them.

I often sit and listen to stories from my clients and other adults who have succeeded in life largely in part because one person saw their potential and influenced and encouraged them when they were younger.

They have never forgotten these people or their words and actions.

Sometimes it is me who is the story in their lives... being the first one to ever encourage them in their efforts to transform and become successful in their own lives.

I have a story of my own to share with you from my school days.

I have never forgotten this wonderful woman a teacher... whose encouragement had a big impact on me in my school years and has in fact stayed with me.

I suffered a hard childhood and everyone saw the worst in me at school apart from one woman... my Art teacher Miss Dibble who was actually very beautiful and yes I had a huge crush on her and she saw I had a real talent as an Artist.

I was 12 at the time and bottom of the class not just the class... the school year.

She would sit me down alone from the rest of the class and let me explore my own Imagination freely to create and at the end of one of the art classes... Miss Dibble asked me to stay behind after school as she had something to ask me... which I did and after school went to meet her in her class room.

She sat me down and then asked me if I would be interested in producing a Peace Poster about war... I said yes as my young heart adored her... she was the only one who was ever kind to me and Miss Dibble explained to me I would be able do the poster in any style I wanted and it had to be big!

Before I started this piece of art I went off and done something I would never of dreamed of doing before as I was considered thick and stupid... I went to the library and loaned out some art books and I invested a week of my time reading and studying them.

And I played around with sketches until I had an...

 "Aha" Moment.

Once I had that "Aha" moment... me the pencil and paper become one... that was me gone and I started producing a highly detailed picture using only a ordinary HB pencil and I stayed behind after school and worked on it for weeks and I absolutely loved that time being completely lost in creating that picture... no beatings... no abuse... no one pushing me down and Miss Dibble was wonderful and always encouraging and supporting... she influenced me to free to be my creative self and was there to encourage and guide me.

I did not know this until many years later when I meet her one day as a young man just out and about in town as I recall it was a nice warm early spring day and we stood there chatting and catching up about life... Miss Dibble who was now Mrs Comber as she married the PE teacher then shared with me something I never knew about at that time.

That when I had completed that picture she had asked all the other teachers to come and see it... then Mrs Dibble shared with me that many of the teachers had difficulty accepting that I had created this picture... that I had gone and done research and sketches and invested many weeks drawing and redrawing the poster until I was satisfied with the result... with very little help from her.

The Art being all my own work... to many of the teachers I was a good for nothing waste of space and just a trouble maker and the Head Teacher most of all did not believe it was me as I was a regular visitor to his office for a caning and many of the teachers did not even believe Miss Dibble!

Anyway Miss Dibble went on to enter my poster into schools art competition taking place in London and I won first prize for a Pencil Drawing and CND asked if they could use my poster in one of their anti war campaigns to which I totally agreed as I was by now flying and so proud of what I had achieved and as far as I know that particular picture ended up staying with CND... I am so proud of that of that picture.

The point I am making here is that one person... my Art teacher Miss Dibble saw something in me that was different and creative and she knew how to bring that creative artistic skill alive in me... Miss Dibble had given me inspiration that I was worth something in this world and I have never forgotten that amazing Woman... she was a very powerful influence on my life in a positive way.

I cannot remember the names of any other teachers in a positive way from my school days as they taught me nothing really that has been of benefit to me later on in life... they all influenced me in a negative way.

Apart from this one thing...

"Never ever let someone steal your dreams away and never ever give up!"

Miss Dibble was a Star who had a massive influence on me and taught me something special which I still hold to today in my own work as a guiding principle that inside every Human Being there is something special each one of us possesses a gift of some kind to shine!

Would you not love to feel that something special in your life and be living your gift?

That you are a cherished and remembered person in another persons life!

I know that I do.

However unless I plant those seeds today that sort of harvest will never come into being for the future.

I may never see the seeds that I plant grow that it is important that I have given my best for others to bloom into life... the finest gift you can give to anyone is the influence of encouragement... yet almost no one gets the encouragement they need to grow to their full potential and if everyone received the encouragement they need to grow the genius in almost everyone would blossom and the world would produce abundance beyond our wildest dreams.

We would have more than one Einstein... Edison... Schweitzer... Maria Curie... Dr. Salk and all those other great minds in abundance!

The truth is that everything that can be accomplished by showing a person when he or she is wrong is ten times more powerful and positive that can be accomplished by encouraging them when he or she is right... the reason we do not do it so often is that it is more fun to tear a person down and cause them pain.

In a perverse way we feel good when others fail and that is hard in a world that likes to say NO!

Do you have someone special who has been the one to influence and encourage you in your life and who trusted in you?

To let you Grow to be YOU!

Positive people feel good when they help build other people up to GLOW with SUCCESS!

And never ever give up until you SHINE to be the best you can be.

Remember that!

Have you any thoughts or comments you would like to share with me on what I have written?

I would love to hear from you.

Thank you and may you enjoy a Loving... Prosperous and Dynamic day!

Yours Sincerely
