Do you give choices or demand ultimatums?
Most of us will often react poorly to an ultimatum.
That is because an ultimatum causes a feeling response... which you will retaliate against.
Do this or else!
Often your natural feeling instinct is to respond to confrontation with confrontation.
Ultimatums rarely work because you react to the feeling with feelings instead of choosing an intelligent emotionally aware thought out response.
When you step back away from your feelings... you are giving both yourself and your partner or those who are causing the conflict... precious time for the feelings to cool down.
You are then giving yourself and the other person the option of choice between two outcomes...
That of an unthinking confrontation and ultimatum.
Or..
A generous act of intelligence... empathetic listening and negotiation... which is a form of truth telling that helps both of you reach a level of emotional and intellectual understand and agreement that serves you both.
You work for the WIN WIN.
That is the position of a... confident... Master Persuader and Influencer.
We all make choices and choices have consequences.
Feelings do not "think" they just react and are lousy decision makers.
It is the emotional logical part of the brain that "thinks" and makes rational choices.
Helping yourself and other people understand your choice in advance leads to a better decision making process all round.
